Can Zantac (ranitidine) cause vomiting?

Side-effects. A side-effect can be attributed to a medication when repeat dosing reliably reproduces an unwanted symptom. Stopping and re-starting a medication can often help you determine is a medication is truely causing a side-effect.

If my baby seems to have the symptoms of ger- pain with spit up and/or vomit, arching back, should she take zantac (ranitidine)?

All babies reflux. To get a burp out of a baby you are getting air to reflux from the stomach. All babies also spit up. When the baby seem to have constant irritability & spitting i often try some antacid medicine to see if it helps. Zantac (ranitidine) is one of several that can be used this way. Read more...

I've been having epigastric pain after eating for 3weeks, some vomiting, worse when lying down. I have IBS. Lost 9lb. Taking Zantac (ranitidine), im 23 yrs old.

GERD. epigastric pin that gets worse after eating and laying down is ussualy associated with gastro-esophageal reflux disease. The drug of choice would be nexium (esomeprazole) or related/ omeprazole and you would probably benefit from a wedge pillow as well. Proper posture during eating helps too, avoid coffe, caffeine/tea, avoid smoking and alcohol. If symptoms do not get better consult a gastroenterologist. Read more...

I have been throwing up for a few weeks and had severe stomach pains. Vomiting doesn't relieve pain. Tums, Pepto, and Zantac (ranitidine) have done nothing.?

You need an appt! It is NOT normal for you to be vomiting for weeks without any relief. You need to see your primary care doc ASAP for an appt to determine what is going on. You might be pregnant and suffering from morning sickness (not just limited to mornings). You might have acid reflux, stomach ulcer, gallstones, pancreatitis, diabetes, or other things. Make an appt so that you can get tested right away! Read more...

My 7 wk old got put on Zantac (ranitidine) and enfimal nutramigen a day and a half ago but vomited yesterday night. Why is he back to crying while trying to burp?

Takes time to improv. Kids on this rx generally have reflux that causes heartburn . This process will improve gradually as the meds begin to help, but continued wet burps are quite common & sometimes persist in spite of rx.As long as baby continues to gain weight, you can continue rx & have a recheck periodically. I have terrible acid reflux causing nausea and vomitting and I'm 38 weeks pregnant I have tried milk, Zantac, (ranitidine) thumbs and nothing helps. Normal?

It's miserable. Acid reflux is definitely miserable in pregnancy. The good news is - it's going to end soon! Pepcid and Zantac (ranitidine) are class B in pregnancy which is safe to use. Ask your OB if they approve of you trying one of those medications. Good luck! Read more...
Normal. At 38 weeks the baby is pushing on all the internal organs, especially the stomach and it's contents. Try eating much smaller meals and stay upright for at least an hour after eating. Hard but worth it. Tetralac, and antacid, has seemed to help my pregnant patients more than others and is safe to take. Elevated the head of the bed, it may also help. Congratulations and good luck. Consult allergist? Good morning, if the hives, throat pressure, nausea and vomiting are of recent origin, an allergic or immune reaction needs consideration. An allergist generally runs tests to identify the cause and may add additional medications such as a short course of steroids or singulair (montelukast) for temporary relief.
