In brief: Over the counter
Vaginal itching and a cottage cheese-like discharge could be signs of a yeast infection.
A woman with these symptoms can try using over the counter yeast infection medication and does not need to see her doctor. If the symptoms do not go away, then you might consider seeing a doctor to evaluate the problem. Wishing you'all the best.

In brief: OTC antifungal meds
Over the counter, topical antifungal agents such as monistat (miconazole) are typically effective in treating vaginal yeast infections.
Be aware that if this treatment is ineffective, you should seek medical attention as there are other gynecologic infections that are bacterial in nature (rather than fungal) that may "seem" like a yeast infection but require prescribed antibiotic medication.
