If I am diabetic while pregnant, does that mean the baby is diabetic?

In brief: No
Not really. In fact, babies born to diabetic mothers have a risk of having too low blood sugars immediately after birth.
If you are a diabetic while pregnant then your chances of developing diabetes later in life is 50%. Eat a diet rich in vegetables, complex carbs, lean protein, and unprocessed foods. Weight watchers is a great program to follow for life. In addition, you must exercise.

Your baby is at a greater risk of diabetes later in life, but he/she will not be born diabetic. If you are diabetic before pregnancy, control it before you get pregnant. If you develop diabetes during pregnancy (gestational diabetes), control it ASAP and be aware that you have a higher lifetime risk of diabetes.
