18 year old dtr has a 3.4 CM rt ovarian dermoid cyst (mri dx). First gyn will only salvage part of ovary if she does laparotomy. Second dr said laparoscopy- spillage not an issue. How to decide?

In brief: Third opinion

This is a small enough cyst that laparoscopy should be successful.
U need to find out how many procedures they do laparoscopically - more the better. Also ask about complication rate. U have to b comfortable with ur surgeon and it doesn't sound like you r at this time. Having one more option might ease ur mind. Try to find someone who does lots of laparoscopy. Good luck.

In brief: Spillage not issue

Few gynecologists have laparoscopic experience with partial resection of ovary which would be treatment of choice 4 ur daughter. Advise: find a gynecologist, general surgeon or urologist, pediatric surgeon or urologist with experience & expertise.
Lap is far less invasive than laparotomy, & entire ovary doesn't need removal 4 such small, benign dermoid cyst.

In brief: Can save ovary

If your doctor has experience in laparoscopy the should be able to salvage that ovary.
Go to an experienced laparoscopic surgeon.
