What are the negatives to veneers?

They need extra care. Dental veneers are used in cosmetic dentistry to improve the appearance of a patient's teeth. Veneers are made of ceramic and are used to cover the surface of a tooth that has been cracked, chipped or damaged. After having veneers installed, it is important that you follow the dietary guidelines as outlined by your dentist. Veneer fracturing can occur if you chew on crunchy or hard foods.
Veneers disadvantage. Once porcelain veneers are in place, removal is very difficult and the treatment is irreversible.
Fragile & extra TLC. While a compliment of veneers can really enhance your smile, veneers are never as strong as your natural teeth (in most cases) or crowns- prone to chipping & discoloratio. With so many options to improve your smile, including orthodontics, bleaching, plastic surgery for gums, chaiside bonding, etc... It all boils down to your expect ions and desires and the best way to achieve the closest results!
Cost and time. The only negatives against veneers versus other cosmetic procedures like bondings are that they are more expensive and take longer to do and are more technique sensitive but they last long, are very esthetic and the same things that break a tooth will break properly done veneers.
Great question! As beautiful as these can be there is a downside. At some point the veneers may need to be replaced; they do not last forever. Since they are made of ceramic they may chip or break. As a result care must be exercised on habits involving the teeth or on eating techniques. Forces would be best decreased on these front teeth with veneers. I would also recommend the nightly wear of a night guard.
Speak with DDS. Speak with your dentist to see what your particular parameters are and how veneers may be a good fit or bleaching would do the trick. If you grind your teeth, the dentist may suggest a nightguard if you are determined to follow through with veneers.
Very few. The greatest disadvantage to veneers is also the greatest advantage. They are ultra-thin. That means there is very little alteration to your teeth. It also means you need to take a little extra care to avoid chipping or fracturing them. You’ll need to drop habits like eating ice (which isn’t good for your teeth either), and practice good oral hygiene. With a little care, veneers can be long lastin.
Veneers. If done properly, for the right reasons, and with proper care, there is very little risk or reason not to have them done. The main precaution involves the fact that no dental restoration is ever as good, strong, and esthetic as what nature gives us when we have good healthy teeth.
Great option if ... Veneers are an amazing way to improve your smile if the following conditions are met: - the doctor is very experienced with veneers and is performing full smile makeovers regularly; - the doctor is using amazing, state-of-the-art lab and a very skillful and artistic ceramist: - the material for veneers is correctly chosen for your particular case ( stacked porcelain, pressed ceramic, e-max, etc.).
Extra care needed. Your dentist will recommend wearing a night guard while you sleep to control any forces from clenching or grinding during sleep. This will protect the veneers and prevent them from breaking. One thing to remember is that veneers or any dental treatment may neeed to be replaced at some point during your life depending on how well yountakecare of them and how well they are made.
