In brief: Back/rib pain

The pain is coming from where the rib head inserts of the spine.
There are a number of causes for this pain ranging from heavy lifting, shingles or a rultured disc. It is important to be evaluated by a spine surgeon who may recommend an MRI of the thoracic spine prior to initiating treatment.

In brief: Many possible causes

Pain with breathing implies involvement of ribs or diaphragm. Most likely is muscular pain, but if this continues beyond another week or so or worsens you should see a physician.
In meantime, try rest and anti-inflammatories.
