In brief: Pain
Endometriosis occurs when there is tissue from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) implanted on other body parts such as the ovary or elsewhere in the pelvis.
Typical symptoms include pain during menstruation, heavy menstrual bleeding, painful bowel movements, and pain during sex. If you are having similar symptoms, consider seeing your doctor.

In brief: Pain and infertility
Endometriosis is a funny process in that it may cause no symptoms at all or may cause severe pain.
The only way to diagnose endometriosis (unless it is in the ovaries in which case we can see it on ultrasound) is by a surgical procedure called laparoscopy.
