In brief: UTI

Painful urination is most often due to a bladder infection.
Sometimes a urethral infection from a sexually transmitted disease is also a cause. Start with a urine test, and if it is consistent with a UTI then antibiotics will resolve it. If you have any vaginal discharge then you should also have tests for stds.
