In brief: No

No it can actually increase the risk of osteoporosis.
It will not prevent arthritis either.

In brief: Barely.

It is not as good as raloxofene (evista) in protecting bones from osteoporosis.
Both are selective estrogen modulators and are nearly equally effective in blocking sexual estrogen receptors, the stimulatory effects of Evista (raloxifene) on bone and gut receptors is 4 x that of tamoxifen! neither prtect against arthritis per se, but strengthening bones helps prevent bone damage (as shown with bisphophonates).
