In brief: Nail
If you are talking about a nail, it may be due to trauma where blood gets under the nail.
It gets better on its own. If it is pure black, it many be a melanoma which is a very dangerous cancer. See a dermatologist.

Any new discoloration of a nail should due evaluated by someone comfortable with nail pathology. I am biased but a dermatologist would really be the best trained person to evaluate your condition.
