I have an infected pacemaker pocket. Is there any antibiotic approach that will help me avoid having all the hardware removed?
Depends. It would depend on what type of bacterial the infection is, but most, in particular, staph aureus, are nearly impossible to cure without removing the pacemaker and wire leads. An infectious disease specialist consultation is necessary.
Consult your doctor. I recommend that you make an appointment with your cardiologist that placed the pacemaker or your primary care doctor about the infection because you may required antibiotics that requires prescription.
