In brief: Mostly...

...By leaving her alone to cry it out.
If you are there, she'll have to rise to the occasion.

In brief: Try

The most common mis-step parents make on this issue is not trying-- often, parents fall into a rut of ricking or holding their baby while he falls asleep, and junior never even gets a chance to learn to do it on his own.
By 2 mos, you should at least sometimes let your child fall asleep on his own; by 4 mos: usually; by 6 mos: always. This is the most important step to get children to sleep thru.
