In brief: Several Reasons
1. Your infection may be a virus not a bacteria.
Z packs are antibiotics that only work on bacteria. If your infection is from a virus, the z pack will not kill it. 2. It is working & you are now able to bring up all the mucus that collected in your lungs during the infection to get rid of it. 3. There are 3 day & 5 day z packs. You may need the 5 day pack. See your dr if your symptoms get worse.

In brief: Takes time
Zpak actually lasts ten days even thouggh you take it for five days only - give it another 5 days before giving up - if worsening infection though - see your doc earlier.

In brief: Inflammatory
Zpaks are unnecessarily overprescribed for even symptoms that are commonly a viral cause.
Symptoms of cough congestion and mucous production without any known respiratory compromise are largely viral in nature and antibiotics such as zpaks will not improve symptoms greatly.
