Fatty foods are packed with calories, twice the number of carbs or proteins for the same amount of food.
So high fat is not going to help you lose weight just because you are avoiding starches and sugars (carbs). Your total calorie intake needs to go down and/or your exercise up to lose weight. Start reading labels with portion size and calorie content as well as the breakdown carb/protein/fats.

High fructose corn syrup is converted directly into fat and stored instead of being used as a true carbohydrate. Try eating more unsaturated fats and less processed sugars. The fructose found in fruits is also loaded with fiber, unlike processed foods.

Saturated Fat is healthy, it is the unsaturated fats from many plants which is not so healthy. As lard consumption fell in the US over decades, obesity and Diabetes Mellitus have progressively increased. Ancel Keys & the US Gov. have long promoted the con(s) to the opposite, but this has never been shown to be true or worked out in any comparison study of HF/LC vs. LC+reduced calories. Ingested fats, natural (not processed) have the lowest tendency to drive ↑LDL particle concentrations; overwhelming trend is that LDL particle concentrations drop into much healthier ranges with ↓need for/benefit from other treatments.
