Otitis media? Do you mean an infection behind the eardrum, often called otitis media? A true "inner ear" infection is rare and serious. It involves the labyrinth/cochlea which is the sensory organ that transduces sound into electrical signals transmitted to your brain. Otitis media will often resolve quickly with antibiotics.
Otitis media. Middle ear space is often infected in children, adolescents & people who smoke or have allergies. This is because these situations lead to the eustachion tube to block easily. When a body space gets occluded, it is ripe for infection. To help heal these infections draining the cavity is a good treatment. This can be done by opening the eustachion tube: blowing, shrinking nasal mucosa with sprays.
