In brief: Insulin

All type 1 diabetics require Insulin and can not survive with out it.
It can be given through injections multiple times daily or an Insulin pump which infuses Insulin throughout the day/night and patients can give a bolus of Insulin for meals based on blood sugar and the carbs they eat. Also glucose sensors can help alert patients if bs is trending high or low before it goes to high or drops low.

In brief: ↓Carb↑Insulin+Amylin

Since dm is ?bg, ??carb (all are absorbed as sugar) intake, supplement the insulin+amylin (symlin), ?body fat (binds Insulin & amylin), carefully adjust exercise, meal frequency & size while monitoring glucose response.
Trial & error adjust to keep glucose in the 65-140 mg/dl (max) range as best able, check hba1c q 3 mo. Also optimize NMR particle sizes & keep av. Resting systolic bps <120 mmhg.
