Wife is 35 w pregnant and put on some 12 kg since conception. Her ob/gyn prescribed l arginine. Is it really required having this much weight gain?

In brief: Good for baby
For an average-sized woman, 12 kg (26 pound) weight gain during pregnancy sounds exactly right.
It is important to put on enough weight to help the baby grow properly.

Some people believe L arginine helps lower blood pressure in toxemia...but I don't know of any good studies on this subject. Perhaps your wife's doc thinks her weight gain is from the fluid of toxemia and he is trying to prevent the blood pressure problems. It is best to ask your wife's doc what he is thinking. Please let me know because I am interested in the answer. Hope this helps.
