Sometime after deep cleaning, is root canal treatment necessary for perio disease treatment?

In brief: Root canal

Deep cleanings are done when someone has bacteria under the gums.
Root canals are done when bacteria, decay, trauma, or infection reaches the nerve of a tooth requiring removal of the nerve. They are usually not related. Sometimes you can have a perio-endo infection which means both infections meet together. Or your gum infection was so bad it required root surface removal that went into the nerve.

In brief: Yes and no

Root canal therapy may be indicated if you have extreme sensitivity following periodontal treatment, or if you have an endo-perio defect.
Have your dentist explain this to you in further detail.
