In brief: Diabetes

Diabetes is commonly short for diabetes mellitus (dm).
2 main types: type 1 and type 2. In type 1, the body stops making insulin. In type 2, the body's cells become Insulin resistant. For dm, 10% have type 1 and 90% have type 2. Pregnant women can get gestational diabetes, where changes of pregnancy produce a temporary type 2. Diabetes insipidous is rare & not related to blood sugar.
