How long is it normal for a child wait to go back to school after getting their appendix removed?

It depends. With early appendicitis, a laparoscopic appendectomy, and no complications, the child may be ready to return to school in 3-5 days. With ruptured appendicitis, a still-open wound, or significant complications, it may take several weeks. When the child is tolerating a regular diet, comfortable on at most simple pain meds, and strong enough to walk a good bit and carry a backpack, then return is ok.
