My oldest got constant ear infections as a baby; does that mean my newborn will as well?

Maybe no, but more likely yes.
Ear infections "run in families" because what makes a child likely to get ear infections include inherited traits such as: size & shape of the eustachian tube that drains the ear, size of tonsils & adenoids that affect the hole at the end of the eustachian tube, and how the immune system reacts to smoke/viruses/allergens. Sibs also live in a similar environment!

Breastfeeding helps to decrease the risk by helping your baby's immune system fight off upper respiratory infections. Also, try to limit your baby from feeding while completely flat-try to keep him upright. Also, avoid smoke exposure. Lastly, limiting exposure to colds decreases the risk.
