In brief: If sleeping face up
A baby should be sleeping face up.
If face up, she will be putting very little pressure on her earrings. So, she can keep the earrings in (she has to or else the holes will seal shut), and the parents can just check the ears each day, for any problems. For future babies, parents should realize that they can also wait until a child is much older before piercing the ears.

In brief: Concerns
As your little one gets a little older and uses her hands to explore, make sure the earings are well secured.
There have been instances where the baby will put a piece of the earring in their mouth and aspirate (piece goes down the windpipe to the lungs). The american academy of pediatrics does not recommend ear piercing until the child understands not to put a piece in their mouth if it falls out.
