In brief: Medication, exercise
If you have COPD and have symptoms, you need to take certain medications regularly, when you feel good and when you don't feel so good.
If you are smoking, quit smoking. Exercise daily, keep your muscle strength both arms and legs. Breathing exercises help too. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Keep up with vaccinations, flu and pneumonia. Use hand sanitizers.

Some patients have found medications used for asthma to be a great help. Some oxygen may also be helpful. All of the above is needed to keep you as healthy as possible.

In brief: Treatments...
Smoking cessation is vital to slow disease progression and control symptoms.
Other treatments include bronchodilator and steroid inhalers as well as oxygen therapy, if your oxygen level is low enough to warrant this therapy. Adhering to these treatments as prescribed by your doctor can control symptoms. If you still have discomforting symptoms despite treatment, see your doctor for additional tx.

If you have symptomatic copd, you should be on inhalation meds at home like advair, Dulera or symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) every 12 hours with or without spiriva by inhalation.
For acute shortness of breath you can use combination of atrovent and albuterol if needed. In severe cases with low oxygen saturation you need oxygen at home.Talk with your doctor what is good ror you.
