In brief: BAD IDEA!

Trying to make yourself go into labor is a bad idea.
The last thing to grow up is the baby's lungs so it is important not to deliver much before your due date anyway. Even when labor is induced in the hospital, it is very important to monitor the baby. Trying to induce your own labor - by any means - could hurt or even kill your baby.

In brief: Not a good idea!

Labor is a natural process that occurs when your body and your baby are ready.
You should never try to do anything to send yourself into labor before the time is right, which is around 40 weeks of pregnancy. There are many "old wives' tales" about different foods to eat or other ways to start labor. The safest thing is to get regular checkups with your OB doctor and wait for labor to start.

In brief: Why?

There is no reliable way to induce early labor at home.
More importantly, it is undesirable for labor to start early; until 40 weeks of pregnancy (at due date) it is important for the baby to stay within mom to maximize development and growth. Patience is required to finish out pregnancy for best health of the child.
