In brief: Infection under skin

Usually a boil refers to a "puss pocket" type of infection under and in fhte skin.
It often comes from the bacteria that are on the skin, getting inside it. They generally need to drain, and most of them will do so if you soak them with warm water several times daily. If they don't drain, you may need to have your health care provider open it up, as was suggested. Antibiotics sometimes help too.
