In brief: Dubious

Unaware data supporting benefit of sole 5fu (fluorouracil) adjuvant therapy of n3 gastric adenocarcinoma after complete resection ( negative margins).
If a "young" 87 yo deemed able to tolerate aggressive treatment-then give standard rx(see nccn guidelines-but note 87 yo were not studied). While your onco well intentioned, consider second opinion and quality of life. Survival possible without chemo.

In brief: What patient thinks

87 yr old could be very healthy and functional, need to be treated just same as young person, but how ever quality of life in elderly equally important , patient should decide , if he can not , too ill to decide not going for extraordinary measures is not considered a neglect .
Physicians will encourage for such decisions , make end part of life as comfortable as possible.
