It is sterile and safe.
Only danger would related to where the needle is inserted. For example, if the needle is inserted to an artery, there is danger of bleeding. Even then, it is such a fine tip that the danger of bleeding is much less than bleeding related to other trauma other risk of any fine needle is infection. Much times ther risk of acapuncture is really minimal.
