What is the difference between a naturopath and an md? Can I go to a naturopath for my yearly physical for a more holistic approach?

In brief: You Can
Naturopaths can do full physicals on you and run bloodwork and give you herbs and supplements! however, with that being said they dont have the licensure to prescribe fda approved medications.
If i were you and i was looking for a holistic physician, i would either go to an md or do who specializes in holistic medicine. Im not saying naturopaths are not doctors, they certainly help alot of pts.

Sometimes disorders such as high cholestrol, infections, hypertension, simpley cannot be adequately treated with herbs and supplements. So it maybe more beneficial to have a physician who has a holistic approach and also carries a prescription pad!

In brief: Big Difference, YES
When to comes to yearly physicals, a physical is a physical.
Nds are trained in the same diagnostic tools and procedures as mds. But when it comes to a more holistic approach to healthcare, nds have plenty to offer, most mds have no little to no training in natural medicine. And fyi, depending on state, nds may also have prescribing authority for fda approved meds.

In brief: No comparison
Naturopaths generally are very charismatic people who are taught that all conditions can be improved without medical or surgical therapy.
They have limited training, would miss many things in an annual physical and their stock in trade is to talk down allopathic medicine. Your regular md can discuss holistic care and has a much better grasp of how this fits in with overall health.
