In brief: Getting to a sit is

on average an 8-month milestone, pulling to a stand, then walking holding onto furniture is usually at 9- 11 months.
Your pediatrician will check muscle tone, strength & reflexes & advise you if there is reason for concern.. You can fill out a developmental screen on firstsigns.org to take to the visit. You can also call your state's Early Intervention Program for a developmental assessment.

developmental delay could also be a possibility

In brief: Borderline

Some children skip the crawling activity and go straight from pulling to stand and walking.
Based on the developmental milestones we use, getting from laying to sitting should be occuring very soon, with 11 months being on the later end of the time scale. It sounds like he will be gaining these milestones very soon, but discuss this with your pediatrician - it will ease your anxiety!
