Although there are prescriptions that can be used (adipex, for example) these are usually stimulants and can raise blood pressure, as well as other potential risks.
They are generally used only for a few months, and unfortunately most studies show that after stopping them, unless significant lifestyle changes are made, the weight (and possibly more) is regained.
