How long does a complete hystorectomy take and can it be done as a day surgery? Does it require a general anaesthetic?
Hysterectomies. In the usa hysterectomies are done using general anesthesia. In selective cases spinal or epidural anesthesia may be warranted. It is done by one shot injection or by leaving a catheter in the back through which more numbing medicine can be injected if the operation lasts longer. The patient is sedated throughout. Lasts 1 hour and more, depending on the surgeon's skills and difficulty of the case.
