Can u test positive for hsv1 and 2? What does the blood test prove if u never had a symptom?

In brief: Herpes

The blood tests determine whether you have ever been infected by hsv 1 or hsv2.
They measure whether you have any antibodies against either virus. If you don't have any antibodies then you were never infected with either virus. If you do have antibodies but no outward infection the virus is lying latent in you and it could develop in the future but if doesn't have to.

In brief: Exposure

Most adults have been exposed to herpes simplex, either type 1 or 2 or both.
When exposed you may or may not develop symptoms, but you will form antibodies (blood proteins directed against the virus) which are measured in the test. If you are positive you have had this and still have it. The test cannot reliably distinguish between the two types.
