Depression Familial. While depression and other mental health problems are not technically genetic, it can be familial. If you have one or more 1st degree relative (mother, father, etc) with depression or another mental illness, you could be at increased risk for the condition as well.
Research indicates. That some mental health problems are genetic. There are also studies which support a combination of both genetic and learned behaviors as being causal. If there is a tendency for people in your family to have depression, it is a reason to seek treatment to help reduce the non-genetic parts and to consider medication sooner rather than later. Good luck and let us know how you are doing with help.
