Why is it bad to let the baby fall asleep with the bottle?

In brief: Tooth decay
Babies who fall asleep with a bottle in their mouths are sleeping with milk sugar on their teeth.
This leads to baby bottle tooth decay. It is much better to use a pacifier, if needed, at bedtime.

In brief: Tooth decay
The most important reason not to allow your baby to fall asleep with a bottle in his/her mouth, or to keep a bottle with him all night, is because of the risk of severe tooth decay, called bottle caries.
There is also some evidence that babies who drink while lying flat have a higher rate of ear infections.
