I had a Pap smear and the results say 2+ epithelial cells and 4 + gram positive bacilli. What does that mean?

Pap results. Epithelial cells are normal exterior cells which line the upper vagina. Most pap reports deal with "squamous cells" which occasionally have abnormal cell appearances. The "4 + gram positive bacilli" notation refers to bacterial growth from a certain type of bacteria. If you are having a discharge or odor, ask your gyn provider to get a culture to make sure treatment is not necessary.
