Can post-wisdom tooth.extraction discomfort be managed w/ OTC painkillers (Advil or Tylenol) instead of Rx meds? If so, what is a good starting dose?

In brief: Perhaps

Depends on extent of the surgery, presence or absence of infection, and your own pain tolerance.
Discuss this with the General Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon who does your Surgery. Best OTC pain reliever is Ibuprofen/Motrin/Advil. Discuss dose w your Surgeon. Note that pain killers do not treat infection, so antibiotic Rx may also be mandated.

1 Advil/Motri/Ibuprofen is 10% more effective than 2 Aspirin, 40% more effective than 2 Tylenol.

In brief: Acetaminophen

You may take about 1.
0 gm acetaminophen every six hours. Do not exceed 4.0 gm in one day. Do not take alcohol. Consult your dentist, but on the first day after surgery apply cold packs to the area, including ice cubes in the mouth.
