Prescribed mupirocin 2% ointment for staph SSTI. Dr. said to use in nose also. Saw med. says not for intranasal use. Using as directed, is this safe?

In brief: Ok if a thin layer

Directions say not for intranasal use because if used in large amounts and "aspirated" (breathed into lungs from nose) it could cause serious problems (the base is petroleum jelly--highly irritating to the lungs).
Should be fine for intranasal use if used as a thin layer placed with a q-tip near the front and for a limited period of time.
