My 5 year old has a wet cough but no signs of a cold and no fever should she be seen by her doctor and over-the-counter meds have not helped?

In brief: Allergies?
If only wet cough start by addressing the possibility of allergies causing the excess phlegm. Give benadryl, (diphenhydramine) or any other allergy medicine.
If not better in a few days, cough becomes worst or shortness of breath, then seek prompt medical attention. In the later scenarios it might be asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis all of which need medical evaluation.

In brief: Maybe not
If she has normal energy, appetite, and no difficulty breathing, you can follow the cough for a week or two.
After 14 days if the cough is still present have her examined.

In brief: Coughing
If the cough has gotten better and worse off and on it is still possible that your child is having virus after virus.
Sometimes kids will cough without having a lot of congestion or associated fever. It they are happy, playful, not having fever i would not worry and watch the symptoms. If they are acting sicker, coughing more frequently then you should see a doctor.
