I am currently having my first period in two months with the last one occurring at the end of Sept. I am used to very irregular and missed periods but this time I am experiencing a lot of sharp pains on the left side along with it. What could it be?

In brief: L sided pain: menses

With irregular periods, it is difficult to always suspect a possible pregnancy, but if you have had unprotected sexual relations, and pregnancy is possible, it is important to check a serum HCG level to see if a pregnancy is present, and may be in a fallopian tube (ectopic).
See your gyn provider to obtain this test asap.
