My child has a fever that won't go away, but the doctor says its just a virus. Do I need to worry its something else?

In brief: Yes
This is not a question that can be answered without a physical exam. If you are concerned that something else could be the cause of the fever, your baby must be reexamined.

In brief: No
Fever associated with viral illness generally lasts from 3-4 days to a week.
An affected child remain somewhat fussy, appetite may remain low, activity level lower than usual. Drastic changes such as heavy breathing or becoming lethargic prompt reevaluation right away. Fever lasting longer than 7 days deserves another evaluation even if serious bacterial infection or something else is uncommon.
