Infections of the tonsils, throat, neck lymph nodes, or sinuses, can cause sore throat, and neck ache.
For some people, ear pressure or ear pain can also cause sore throat, and neck ache or headache. A primary care doctor can check to see if it is a routine problem like strep throat, which needs antibiotics. Taking some Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) can temporarily relieve pain.
