I get a lot of pain when I press in and under the ball of my foot where my big toe ends. It doesn't cause pain when I walk or run. What could cause it?

In brief: Could be arthritis
The big toe is a common site of degenerative arthritis but could also be from sprain/strain, mechanical or alignment problems.
Ask your doctor. Also, a rheumatologist or podiatrist may be helpful.
