Is Antibiotic Cefuroxime Axetil effective against both upper and lower respitory infections or effective only against upper respitory infection?
It is effective. Against both depending on the cause of the infection and may not be the first line of treatment.
It can be. Cefuroxime can be used to treat pneumonia (lower respiratory infection) as long as the bacteria you are infected with is "sensitive" to the antibiotic. Bacteria can evolve and develop resistance, so there is always a possibility that your infection is resistant to the bacteria, OR if it's a viral infection it will not respond to antibiotics (it will only help develop resistant bacteria!)
That depends.... Ceftin (cefuroxime axetil) is a 2nd generation cephalosporin antibiotic (there are 4 generations now). It is commonly given for infections across the lungs, sinuses, gut, and skin. Mild or major, depends on perspective but overall i would say that antibiotics are over-prescribed. The key at this point is to finish the course you were given. Read more...
