For a year now I've been getting low grade fevers when I have back nerve pain, or sprained ankle in sports, etc. Why? I've ruled out coincidence.

In brief: Low grade fever

I presume your CBC (blood count) is normal.
Same the chest xray. It is normal in kids. Very rare in adults and it is the diagnosis when other possibilities are excluded. Maybe tests for malignant hyperthermia, especially if you never have had general anesthesia.
