Likely migraines. Cluster headaches are headaches on one side of the head with eye tearing and/or nose running on that same side of the head that make you agitated and pace that last 15-180 minutes untreated. Migraines last 4+ hours untreated and are more often associated with nausea and blurred vision. The distinction matters since we treat them differently. Friend and I knocked heads yesterday's really hard. Got an instant headache. I still have headache and now when I chew it hurts. Also stiff neck.

Post traumatic HA. Head hits can lead to daily headache, plus muscle tightness of face, jaw and neck. Likely this will resolve on it's own within 4 weeks or less. For the first 2 weeks, it's okay to take over-the counter Ibuprofen or Naproxen as needed. If it persists beyond 2 weeks, get in to a neurologist for evaluation and management. Good luck! Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. I hit my head last night, had a small bump. Woke up to a stiff neck. I don't have headaches or anything besides the stiff neck. Should I get it checked out?

Not necessarily. In the absence of other symptoms, the wait and see approach to a stiff neck is ok. The bump is enough to explain minor muscle or connective tissue irritation contributing to the stiffness. Apply heat and get adequate rest/hydration and see if it improves. Read more...

Suffering from frequent stiff neck. Plus headache and dry cough (both occurred just now). My head hurts when I cough too. Help?

Comments. Would suggest you likely have either an upper respiratory tract infection or asthma, and this could readily be controlled. The cough probably exacerbates the neck which triggers the headaches. All of this could readily be addressed by your regular doctor. Read more...
