Sickle cell anemia. All patients of sickle cell anemia have an enlarged spleen to begin with but later due to recurrent splenic infarcts it shrinks.
Spleen complication. Splenic sequestration occurs most often in children between ages 5 months and 2 years of age. Blood fills the spleen resulting in acute enlargement of the spleen and decrease in circulating hemoglobin. This is a medical emergency. Go directly to the emergency room.
Call your doc. If your baby is happy, eating well, acting normally, and has no fever, no need to go the ER. Call your doc for advice. if the child is sick, call the doc or go to the ER .
