In brief: Possibly Arthritis
Most chronic low back pain comes from the chronic inflammation of the facet joints of the spine.
These inflamed joints, like any joint in the body, causes pain with movement. There can also be a lot of muscle/soft-tissue based symptoms over lying the joints that can hurt as well. Acute pain can be strain but chronic pain is usually from real pathology.
