Why is it recommended to only get the Tdap vaccine once in your lifetime, if it only protects against pertussis for a few years?

In brief: Explanation

All adults already immunized in early childhood and teenager age to DtaP and TdaP.
P is for pertussis. Usually average time of immunity after vaccination just around 10 years. TdaP now recommended for pregnant women for prevention newborn babies ,who is very vulnerable. And boost mother,s immunity to diphtheria. In some country that is important as well.

In brief: Grandparents, too!

If grandparents are to be around infants under 6 months of age (when the DTaP is first given), those grandparents need to get a TDaP (Boostrix) to insure they do not inadvertently spread pertussis to the infant.
Saddle up, Grandma & Grandad and protect your grandchild. (Consult the ACIP of the CDC&P website).
