My vitamin d level is 29, should I take a supplement and how much per day?

Probably not needed. The institute of medicine recently did a review of vitamin d needs. They concluded that we probably take more than we need. It is hard to tell from your number just what form of vit d was measured, and what the units are. If you are referring to vit d oh, measured in ng/ml, a level of 20 ng/ml is thought to be adequate.
Verify normal range. First you have to see what is the normal range in the test done by yourm doctor, if you a regimen of high dose vitamin d will be indicated, if level is normal daily recommended intake base on you diary intake will be appropriate.

My vitamin d level is 36 as per the lab result. Shall I take any supplement and how much? Thank you

Vitamin D. There is great debate on where the vitamin d level should be. I don't think anyone really knows exactly. Since vitamin d is considered more like a hormone i believe that the level should be higher. Low vitamin d has been correlated with higher cancer rates, increase in all types of mortality, inc heart attacks. I would recommend a level of 60-90. I would take d3 5000 iu/d and recheck in 6 mo. Vitamin d level is low i.e. 21. Dr prescribed high dose vit d supplement. Should l also take K2 and how much? I understand Warfarin may need adjusting

Talk to doctor. If you are on Warfarin, do not take vitamin K2. It is imperative that you address your intake of food, dietary supplements, herbals, over the counter drugs etc with the doctor who prescribed Warfarin. Taking vitamin D3 is safe, but I would recommend taking to your doctor even for that. Wish you good health! Read more...

My vitamin d level is 18. why vitamin d supplement gives me horrible muscle cramps. Should I take calcium with vitamin d or take vitamin d only?

Unusual response. This is a very unusual reaction to Vit D. You are more likely to be reacting to the other ingredients in the supplement so look for a pure Vit D3 with minimal additives. Most adults need 5-8000 iu/day to get optimal levels of 50-80. You probably don't need calcium unless your diet is low in calcium but it is wise to take Vit K with Vit D. Muscle cramps may be caused by low Magnesium. See comment: Read more...

You have a problem. Low vit D level in face of 50K u supplementation suggests transmethylation defect* (check for elevated homocysteine) may cause impaired ability to use vit B12=>peripheral neuropathy & other problems. It's fixable! *methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase mutations Elevated B6 can cause peripheral paresthesias and possibly pain often at doses > 200 mg/day. Check with your doctor. Read more...
