In brief: Increased vagal tone

I checked with other physicians on Global Rounds & received only 1 reply which made any sense: increased parasympathetic (vagal) tone.
Type "symptoms of increased parasympathetic tone" in Google to see what I mean. It may also explain the asthma / reactive airway disease that was detected on PFTs: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20044211. Trying to ID "causes of increased parasympathetic tone"

In brief: Globus sensation?

Not sure about the heart beat part of the question.
The feeling of having a persistent lump in one's throat (without actually having a lump) is known as globus sensation or globus pharyngeus. Typically exacerbated by acid reflux or excessive post-nasal drainage. It is quite common.
